A firefighter with over two decades of experience at Nelson Fire and Rescue has been named the department’s new chief.
The City of Nelson announced Tuesday that Jeff Hebert had been promoted to replace Len MacCharles, who retired in May after serving in the role since 2014.
Hebert joined Nelson Fire and Rescue in 1999 as an auxiliary firefighter, was hired full-time in 2001 and 10 years later was promoted to captain. In 2020 Hebert was named assistant chief and training officer.
The Nelson native has certificates in fire investigations, hazmat and fire service instructor.
