Capitol Theatre manager Neil Harrower (left) and local signmaker Brian McLachlan celebrated the installation of a new marquee Thursday morning.
“Its format and font are exactly the same [as the old one],” Harrower says. “Its colour and its lighting are completely different. It’s lit from within rather than below. So it’s a bit more flash.”
The sign, which uses energy-efficient LED lights and fits the existing electric system, cost about $7,000. An anonymous donor put up $3,500 and the local branch of the Royal Bank gave $500. The local Eagles Ladies Auxiliary helped raise the rest.
The sign, which cost $7,000, is expected to last about 25 years, unlike the old one, which fell apart after six years. Harrower also thanks Tony Maglio for donating his services in erecting the new sign.
