Over 50 drivers ticketed for using cellphones

RCMP and Nelson Police were on the hunt Tuesday

Over 50 drivers were fined Tuesday for using cellphones.

West Kootenay Traffic and the Integrated Road Safety Unit said it a release that over 50 tickets were written in the Nelson area for drivers using cellphones.

“One driver was observed holding his cell phone in front of his face, talking on speaker phone, and seemed to think it was OK,” said the release.

Four officers from the RCMP and Nelson Police were involved in the search for drivers using cellphones, which took place over four hours. A fine of $368 is handed out for first offense.
