Nelson Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old Calgary man after he stole a vehicle, clothing and jewelry, and broke into a home.

Police were called to Lakeside Park in Nelson after the owner of the vehicle returned from boating to find it had been stolen.

The vehicle had been parked legally and a witness had saw it exit the parking area at a high rate of speed.

After police began their investigation, they received information that the vehicle had been abandoned in a ditch in the 2100 block of Svaboda Road.

With the help of a witness police were led to a residence where they located Chad Brandon Sulmanis.

Sulmanis had broken into the home and had stolen clothing and jewelry. All the stolen items were recovered.

Just 25 minutes before, he had been released from RCMP custody after being kicked out of Shambhala.

Sulmanis is being held in custody until he appears in Nelson Provincial Court on August 9 for a bail hearing.

Nelson Police would like to thank the witnesses who came forward and provided valuable information and assistance which greatly aided in the arrest of the suspect and recovery of all the stolen property taken
