RCMP continue to search for suspect Peter Degroot, 45, near Slocan who allegedly fired at police in the village on Thursday.

RCMP still consider the man to be armed and dangerous.

Degroot is described as 185cm (6 ft 1 inch), 77 kg (170 lbs), short brown hair, appears to be balding, blue eyes and glasses.

RCMP have set up a 10 by 10 hectare containment area on the west side of the river where they are concentrating their search efforts. Additional resources including air support, the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, crisis negotiator, police dogs and Tactical Armoured Vehicle were deployed to the scene on Thursday and Friday.

Csnt. Kris Clark said RCMP have somewhat relaxed their restrictions for the east side of Slocan by allowing residents to return to their homes. However, the RCMP urge Slocan residents to stay indoors and limit their outdoor activity, stressing the public’s safety is the RCMP’s number one concern.

Clark said, “The public’s safety is our number one priority and we hope for a quick resolution.”
