BC Wildfire Services says a prescribed burn has been scheduled in an area about 13 kilometres north of Meadow Creek.

The burn, which is being done in partnership with Cooper Creek Cedar, will cover up to 27 hectares in the Mat Creek area. Smoke is expected to be visible from Highway 31.

The service said the burn will take place as early as Monday, May 30, if weather conditions are met.

The goals of the burn, according to the service, are to “mimic naturally occurring ground fire, delay the onset of competing vegetation, reduce accumulations of dead and combustible material, and decrease the long-term fire hazard in the area.”
