RCMP deployed an emergency response team on March 1 to apprehend a woman barricaded in her house in Kaslo.

In written communications, she had been threatening people and talking of taking hostages, according to a news release from the RCMP.

“The author of the communication is known to have medical issues that are of concern for their wellbeing,” the news release states.

When police first approached the home, she was visibly distressed, refused to speak with them, and waved “an edged weapon” at them before she barricaded herself.

The woman was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.
