Savoy Hotel rezone pushed back

Kootenay Christian Fellowship’s application to rezone the old Savoy Hotel for church purposes has been delayed by a few weeks.

Kootenay Christian Fellowship’s application to rezone the old Savoy Hotel for church purposes has been delayed by a few weeks.

Originally it was set to go before city council on Monday, but it’s been pushed back to April. Pastor Jim Reimer says changing the building’s use will require bringing it up to code, which means redoing the insulation.

They’ve opted to insulate on the outside, which means the proposal has to go before the heritage commission first.

They’re trying to raise $1 million by April 15 to convert the building into low-cost housing and the new home of Our Daily Bread. Donations can be made online at sqft2freedom.com. Cheques can also be dropped off  at or mailed to 812 Stanley Street.
