Scott Spencer has been named the new general manager for Nelson Hydro.

Spencer’s appointment was made public Tuesday by the City of Nelson, which said he had spent the last three years working for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation.

“I am very excited to join the great team at the City of Nelson and look forward to being able to contribute to my community in a professional capacity,” Spencer said in a statement.

Spencer has a Masters of Business Administration in Renewables, a Masters Certificate in Project Management and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. After starting his career with the Canadian Forces Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Branch for four years, he spent time with GE Canada, HeatWave Technologies, Teck Cominco and Zellstoff Celgar.

Spencer was also director of major projects for Columbia Power Corporation before moving to the Territories.

“Scott is a professional engineer with a variety of experience in both hydro and alternative energy projects, including biomass and solar,” said city manager Kevin Cormack. “His unique set of skills and experience makes him the ideal person to lead Nelson Hydro into the future. Please make sure to introduce yourself to Scott when you see him.”

Spencer replaces Alex Love, who left in August after 12 years in the role as Nelson Hydro GM to take a position in the Northwest Territories.
