UPDATE: Second wildfire near Castlegar under control

Another fire has started near Castlegar.

On Monday, July 5, a fire was discovered near Mountain Ridge Road, north of Robson.

The fire was caused by a downed power line.

The Southeast Fire Centre has identified the fire as under control and very small at .01 hectare. The BC Wildfire Service supported the Pass Creek Fire Department with two initial attack crews (six personnel).

On July 1, the Merry Creek Wildfire broke out on the western edge of Castlegar, resulting in evacuations and highway closures. That fire is now contained at 20 hectares.
