Neither Selkirk College nor its faculty association will comment on the college's offer of a senior executive job to a convicted sex offender.

Selkirk College retracted its job offer to its new dean of trades earlier this month only a few days after it was made, and before he had started work.

News of the hiring of Andrew William McKay had already been circulated to college faculty, according to an online report by the CBC on Friday.

McKay was fired from his position as Director of Graduate Studies at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops in 2014 after child pornography was found on his workplace computer and printer.

Court records indicate that McKay then pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography.

He was sentenced to 90 days in jail in July, 2016.

The college has declined the Star’s request for further comment, citing privacy reasons.

A new dean of trades will oversee the Silver King campus in Nelson, which is currently undergoing an $18.9 million renovation.
