Seven new COVID-19 cases announced in Nelson area

The Nelson Local Health Area saw seven new cases of COVID-19 between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.

The health area includes Nelson and Salmo. There was one new case in each of Castlegar, Trail, and Creston and none in the Grand Forks, Arrow Lakes, or Kootenay Lake areas.

The Nelson area has had 53 cases of COVID-19 from January to December, 2020, according to the BCCDC.

Since January 2020, Interior Health, which includes much of southern B.C. including Nelson, has had 4,310 total cases through Jan. 6, 2021, of which 782 are considered active.

There have been 34 deaths and 33 people are currently hospitalized.
