Sinixt ruling delayed

Judge Peter Willcock is now expected to rule February 25 at 9 a.m. on the Sinixt First Nation’s constitutional challenge to logging on Perry Ridge.

Willcock was originally set to deliver his verdict on Friday, but according to Marilyn Burgoon of the Perry Ridge Water Users Association, it’s been delayed by a week.

It follows nine days of arguments heard in Vancouver over three sittings in the last two months.

The Sinixt argue they should have been consulted before BC Timber Sales awarded a logging license to a Kaslo company for the contentious area.

The attorney general’s ministry responded the Sinixt did not have standing to bring such a claim.
