Electronic fare boxes have been installed on Nelson buses. BC Transit says the system will improve fare security, reduce fare disputes, and collect accurate ridership data.
Encoded monthly passes are now on sale, and as of May 1 will replace the 23-ride punch card. Books of six tickets will also be replaced by books of 10. Riders are encouraged to use their old tickets or exchange them at City Hall.
The new machines will record information from each fare card, such as boarding time and bus route, which can help determine improvements to the local transit system.
