Telus says it will invest $500,000 in Nelson this year to improve its infrastructure.

Telus says it will invest $500,000 in Nelson this year to improve its infrastructure.

The company says it’s part of a $670 million plan to improve its networks in B.C., including faster Internet services and laying the groundwork for Optik TV in the Kootenays.

“We are adding additional capacity to existing wireless sites in the West Kootenay this year to further increase wireless data speeds and keep up with increasing customer demand,” spokesman Shawn Hall says.

“We are planning to add wireless service in coming years to some rural highways and smaller communities as well.”

Hall says Telus is seeking locations for several cell tower sites in West Kootenay, “so expanding services there is certainly on our radar.”
