A minivan and mail truck sustained major damage in a collision Monday around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Mill and Hendryx streets.

Police say the driver of the van, a 32-year-old Nelson woman, was headed east on Mill and apparently failed to see the truck going north on Hendryx.

There were no injuries, but both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Crash on Baker

A 54-year-old Nelson area man received a ticket for unsafe backing Sunday after he tried to leave an angle parking spot on the north side of the 200 block of Baker Street against traffic.

Police say in doing so, the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier hit a 2008 Honda from Alberta that was stopped facing east at the intersection of Kootenay and baker.

A 25-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Honda suffered minor injuries. Total damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000.

Car vandal on the loose

Police are asking Uphill residents to report anyone acting suspicious around parked vehicles. Over the past three days, they’ve received three complaints of vandalism to cars parked within a few blocks of each other.

It’s believed the damage has occurred in late evening or early morning.

Drunk snoozes in cell

A 31-year-old Nelson man was found passed out at a table in a downtown coffee shop Wednesday afternoon. Police woke him up and took him to jail without incident.

“Once safely in custody the highly intoxicated male quickly resumed his siesta undisturbed,” Sgt. Howie Grant says.

He was released that evening once he’d sobered up.
