Kootenay talent shone at the B.C. Festival of the Performing Arts held in Penticton last month.
Following the Kootenay Festival of the Arts in Trail in April, a total of 17 West Kootenay performers qualified for provincials, seven as competitors and 10 as merited participants.
Katie Clark was the recipient of the Ian D. Smith Award, which is administered through the Osprey Foundation. Clark played violin and had her cousin accompany her on piano, performing in the “Future Stars” segment.
Other recipients of the Osprey Foundation Awards included Nico Bucher - Strings, Isla Bitting - Dance, Isabel McAleer - Voice, and Iris Hussey - Piano.
Bucher also captured a first place in Senior Brass, and has won the provincials for the third time, taking Junior and Intermediate honours prior to the Senior Brass.
Bucher (brass) and McAleer (voice) will both be representing the Kootenays at the Canada West Festival in July.
McAleer, who performed for the first time at provincials in Penticton and then again this year, will be attending the prestigious Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts.
