Wildfire extinguished south of Nelson ‘suspicious in nature’

The fire is believed to have been human caused

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services and the BC Wildfire Service extinguished a group of small wildfires near Nelson on Sunday.

The two agencies responded to smoke reported at about 4:30 p.m. above the Rail Trail on the mountain above Selous Creek south of Nelson, according to a news release.

There were multiple small fires over an area of about a half hectare.

“The fire appears to be suspicious in nature,” the news release states.
