Wildfires caused by storms earlier this week around Nelson don’t appear to be increasing in size.
The largest fire in the area is at West Kokanee Creek, which was discovered Monday above Crescent Bay and is visible from Nelson. It remains listed by BC Wildfire Service as 50 hectares and out of control.
The Sandy Creek fire on southwest of the city is now under control at just 0.015 hectares while the Kokanee Creek fire is being held at 0.1 hectares.
In the Slocan Valley, the Trozzo Creek fire near Winlaw is still out of control but just 0.04 hectares large.
The fire closest to a community is at Carpenter Mountain approximately three kilometres northeast of New Denver. That fire is 28 hectares and listed as out of control.
Two large fires also continue to burn east of Argenta in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Provincial Park. The Hamill Creek fire is 709 hectares while Clint Creek is 166 hectares. Both are considered out of control but have not grown in size since Monday.
