It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our Mom, aka “Gramma Annie.” Anne Marion passed away peacefully in Nelson, BC in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald, in 2010. Her sharp mind, quick wit and beautiful smile will be forever missed. Anne was born in Coalhurst, Alberta, served as a Corporal in CWAC (Canadian Woman’s Army Corp) during WWII. She later settled with Gerry in British Columbia, raising their family in Nelson. Anne had a long career in provincial public service, initially qualifying as a surveyor, and later becoming the highly-respected Registrar of the Nelson Land Registry Office, being the first woman to hold both these positions in B.C. Anne and Gerry had a great passion for golfing, and traveling the world. She was also famous for her spectacular flowers and beautifully landscaped yard at her mountainside home. Anne loved her view of the lake and the wildlife that wandered through “The Ranch.” Anne is survived by her children, Catherine, Marcia, John (Annarita), Patricia (Paul) Hanki, Arthur, and Yvonne (Michael) Lorusso; twenty grandchildren, Nathan, Jess, Margaret-Anne, Marianne, Nicole, Danielle, Ryanne, Melissa, Kristan, Mark, Andrea, Kelly, John, Justin, Brendan, Joel, Dominique, Michelle, Katharyn, Jonathan; sixteen great grandchildren, Isabelle, Andrew K., Cash, Andrew K., Lila, Leo, Whitney, Jane, Kianna, Cole, Anika, Oscar, Kohen, Mila, and Lindon, and predeceased by great grandson, David. Grandma Annie was proud of remembering and keeping record of all her family member’s birthdays. Anne was a strong, fiercely independent woman who was loved so much and will be long remembered. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Nelson Home Support, Meals on Wheels, the staff at Mountain Lakes Senior Community and to Drs. Janz and Noiles for their caring support of Anne. A mass will be held at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate in Nelson on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Burial will follow at the Nelson Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the Cathedral’s lower reception room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 51. Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Service.
