In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Sapriken, originally from Nelson, BC at the age of 83 years on April 25, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Barbara was born in Toronto, Ontario and at the age of 16, moved to Nelson, BC with her sister and brother-in-law, where she became an LPN at Mount Saint Francis. Barbara met her husband, Fred Sapriken in 1957 and two years later married him on November 29, 1959. They resided in Blewett for most of their lives where Barbara was a stay-at-home mom for over 40 years raising 4 children. Barbara moved into the City of Nelson where she spent 12 years working at the Prestige Lakeside Resort as a housekeeping supervisor.
In 2007, Barbara moved to Lethbridge, Alberta and then in April 2008, she moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she worked at Value Village until she retired at the age of 77.
We will all miss her sense of humor, her words of wisdom, her story telling and her heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and who called her Mom and Nanny.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her son, Larry Sapriken of Regina, SK, son Ken (Brenda) Sapriken of Lethbridge, AB, son Allan Sapriken, daughter Laurie-Ann Sapriken, grandsons Timothy Boychuk, Matthew (Jeannette) Boychuk, Thomas (Amy) Boychuk of Edmonton, AB, step-granddaughter Nicole Clay of Edmonton, AB, her sister June McGowan of Mississauga, ON along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara now joins her husband Fred, mother Dorothy, father Wilfrid, brothers, Bruce, Robert, and George and sisters, Margaret and Joan among the angels in heaven.
At the request of her family, no service will be held. Her cremains will be buried at the City of Nelson Cemetery alongside her husband, Fred in August 2024.
