Bess Bessie (Beeauke Jantye) Schuurman

July 9, 1944 – December 25, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
Our beautiful friend made her final journey on this planet, she went where she longed to be, with peace, grace, and dignity.
Bess was the second of six children born to Jacob and Grace Schuurman, born in Granum, Alta. The Schuurman family moved to Neerlandia and Bess lived on the family farm until she entered the Misericordia School of Nursing in 1966.
Bess went on to use her nursing skills in Lethbridge, Cornwell, Ontario, New Mexico, Australia, Barrhead, Edmonton, and Inuvik and finally settled in Nelson, B.C. in 1978. She worked at KLDH for 26 years, all spent in the ICU and Emergency.
Bess loved to travel, the countries she trekked through were South America, Australia, all across Canada, East and North Europe as well as parts of Asia.
At the age of 64-65, Bess biked and camped by herself from Nelson, B.C. to St. Johns, NFLD., this took her just over 4 months. Once there she wintered with friends; in the spring she jumped on her bike and made the trek back home to Nelson.
Bess is survived by her brothers Henry (Judy) and family, Tom (Nancy) and family, John (Jo) and family, Sister Edna (Leonard) and family, brother-in-law Peter Almost (Jennie deceased), plus numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Bess gave of herself to several charities and volunteer groups. Her dedication to humankind was immeasurable.
Her faith in God was steadfast, Bess never wavered, and she was a faithful servant of her Lord. Bess is now in her heavenly home.
Her Nelson family (Vivian, Sylvia, Bobbie, Patsy, and Don Dozzi (deceased) whom she hiked, biked, kayaked, skied, and snowshoed with, will miss her dearly.
Bess is now hiking and biking the highest peaks of Heaven! Mizpah “may the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another”.
We love You
