Betty Marion Elisabeth Ridge

Betty passed away at Mountain Lake Village on December 23, 2018 after a serious injury. She was the last baby born in Phoenix, BC on April 14, 1920.

As a child, Betty moved to South Slocan, BC where her father was employed with West Kootenay Power. After her fathers passing the family moved to Nelson, BC where Betty spent her teenage and young adult years. In 1942 Betty married Jess Ridge and returned to the South Slocan/Bonnington area where they welcomed their children in 1945 and 1948 to complete their family. Betty was an avid walker, an excellent bowler and badminton player, as well as an active volunteer in her community. She was proud to be one of the founding members of the South Slocan Hospital Auxiliary, and continued to support the hospital through her life. Community and family were very important to Betty.

After Jess's passing in 2001, Betty returned to Nelson, living at Granite Manor, where she enjoyed the activities at the Nelson Senior Center. She also enjoyed the communities at Lakeview and Mountain Lake. Betty will be remembered for the warmth of her smile.

Betty is survived by her children Howie (Kathy Brock) Ridge, Arlene (Tom Quirk) Ridge, grandchildren Brad Jmaeff, Kyle Ridge, Tobi (Travis) Hauck, great grandchildren Caden Hauck and Hailey Hauck, brother Allan (Mary) MacDonald, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband Jess Ridge, and her brothers Roy, Dave, and Buzz.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be planned for April; an announcement with the details will follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Betty's honour to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff of Lakeview Village and Mountain Lakes.
