In Loving Memory ~
It is with extreme sadness that the family of Bruce (Ferg) Ferguson announce his passing after a brave fight with cancer. Bruce passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital in the morning of March 7 with his family at his side.
Bruce was a wonderful father and grandpa and is survived by his three children, Jody, Tracy (Eric) and Cory and his three grandchildren, Toscane, Emeric and Taiya. Bruce is also survived by his caring sister, Judi. Bruce was preceded by his loving wife Beverly, five months prior.
Bruce was born and raised in Nelson and made the town his forever home with Beverly, his lifelong partner of 53 years. Hockey was a passion in his life and he played for the Nelson Junior Leafs winning the provincial championship in 1968. He continued to play recreational hockey for years after and watched hockey with a passion, always cheering for his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bruce became a legend of the school district, working as a bus driver for over 41 years, driving generations of families. His passion for helping others was never more evident than when he cared for the children on his bus, always making them laugh and feeling important. He often dressed as Santa Claus for Blewett School and delivered hampers, with his work mates, for those in need. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed every day at work, joking with his peers.
Bruce's favorite memories were created at the cherished family cabin on the lake where he spent countless hours entertaining his children and grandchildren with endless activities. Nights were spent around the bonfire laughing with many family members and friends. Bruce always looked forward to his bi-yearly guys' trip to Bonners.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bruce's name to your local elementary or secondary school would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held on July 31 at the Hume Hotel between 1-4 pm.
Bruce will be forever missed by many. His sense of humor and caring nature will be remembered. He will always be in our thoughts.
