Cameron was born Mah Kin Shum in Tin Sum, Canton, China on September 24, 1946. Cameron passed peacefully from this life on the afternoon of June 8, 2019 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life.
He arrived in Canada in 1959, settling first in Castlegar, BC, where he learned his culinary skills working at the Marlane Grill. Later he married his wife Jayne, and in 1967 they settled in Nelson, BC and raised four children; Ginger, Tracy, David and Dennis. Cameron cooked in many Chinese restaurants but his name and reputation was more closely associated with the KC Restaurant. After working tirelessly as a chef for many years he finally retired in 2001 and lived the remainder of his life in beautiful Nelson.
Cameron enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He volunteered much of his free time with The Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 641. He also loved fishing, carpentry, poker and socializing with his coffee friends at the food court of The Chahko Mika Mall.
Cameron was predeceased by his father, Yew Mah and also his mother, Tsui Ying Mah.
He is survived by his wife Jayne of Nelson, two daughters; Ginger of Nelson and Tracy (Greg) of Burnaby as well as two sons; David of Castlegar and Dennis (Kari) of Surrey, BC. He is also survived by one grandchild, Meela of Burnaby, four brothers; Brian (Debbie) of Burnaby, Ronald (Alice) of Trail, Russell (Eileen) of Nelson, Roger of Calgary and one sister, Stella of Las Vegas.
He will also be sadly missed by his brothers-in-law; Tim (Susan) Jay, Terry (Anne) Kwan, Tom (Roz) Jay, Jim (Deanna) Jay and York Jay as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Service; 613 Ward St, Nelson on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11 am with Reverend Ken Siemens officiating; burial to follow at Nelson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cameron's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Milde, Dr. Tuvel and the many nurses and staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital for their compassionate care while he was ill. Cameron will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
