June 6, 1922 - January 12, 2022
The loving, laughing and amazing Catherine Margery Symonds, better known by as "Aunty Kate", passed away quickly in her sleep in January 12th 2022, less than 5 months shy of her 100th birthday.
After a long & happy life that touched so many, Aunty Kate left this world in Nelson, BC remarkably close to where she was born on June 6th 1922.
Kate loved retirement in Nelson, loved the art, the people, the restaurants, the people, the lake, the mountains, the tea , the people. She loved it.
Kate would frequent restaurants almost daily becoming one of Nelson's most locally recognized & beloved inhabitants.
When entering one of the restaurants the owner would see her at the door and yell out for attention in the dining room - "Everybody say hello to Aunty!" and they would.
When Kate got up to leave the restaurant - "Everybody say bye-bye to Aunty!" - and all present would dutifully respond, Kate lovely waving back.
Kate's life personified love and living and fun kindness and caring. She was the best. Everybody say bye-bye to Aunty.
The family would like to thank the fabulous, caring staff of Mountain Lakes as well as her cherished friend Michelle Shumay. Aunty's best friend was Val Ames who went above & beyond for Kate & the family, we will be forever grateful.
Sing a little ditty in her memory.
