In loving memory ~

Dad was born in Sardis B.C. to Charles and Frances (nee Irwin). He grew up on a farm near Whitewood, Saskatchewan during the Great Depression. During WWII he saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhine Crossing. After the war, he returned to his family in Haney B.C. and met and married the love of his life, Edna, in Vancouver.

In 1954, he joined the RCAF serving 16 years in Alberta, Ontario, Germany and Manitoba. After retiring from the Air Force, they returned to BC, and in 1973 the family moved to Nelson. Dad was an employee of the provincial government and was active in the BCGEU, for which he received an honorary life membership. He was actively involved in his community. The greatest joy of his life was directing the Nelson and Balfour Duplicate Bridge clubs, which he did well into his 90s. He loved to drive his Buick Roadmaster and will be remembered by some as 'Banjoman'. Dad was a proud Nelsonite!

Dad was modest about his achievements and loyal to his family and friends. He lived independently, had a sharp wit and often teased with a twinkle in his eye. He preferred "long hellos and short goodbyes"; a real-life hero and our own very special hero.

Lovingly remembered by children Dawn (Maurice), John (Kim), Penny, and Pauline (Scott). Grandchildren: Corey (Lee), Joshua, Jeff (Heather), Matthew (Lara), Erin (Pete), Naomi (Kevin), Leah, Kelly, Shaun, Qwin, and Jessica (Chad). Great-grandchildren: Erica, Mason, Noah, Marcus, Claire, Ella, Evan, and Benjamin. Predeceased by his loving wife Edna, grandson Daniel, and four siblings.

A heartfelt thank you to the many caregivers and friends who were there for Dad over the last few years.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at Nelson Seniors, on July 25th at 1:30 pm. Donations to Our Daily Bread Food Bank in Nelson or a charity of your choice.
