Charlotte Geneva Bond

September 13, 1937 - May 15, 2024

Charlotte Geneva Bond was born on September 13, 1937, in Nelson, BC, to parents Louise and John Birch. She was the oldest of five children and she lived in Nelson for most of her life. She graduated from high school and worked for a period of time at the Nelson City Hall before spending the majority of her working life in the retail industry. This line of work suited Charlotte well because she loved meeting and talking to people.

Charlotte married twice, having a total of five children - four boys and one girl. She had her three oldest boys with her first husband and her youngest son and daughter with her second husband, John (Jack) Bond. Charlotte's greatest love and achievement in life was her family, including her extended family of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her family was always keenly aware of how much she loved and supported them. Charlotte was also known to "adopt" others as members of her extended family.

Charlotte was a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, establishing numerous long-term friendships and serving her community. During her time with the Eagles, she earned a number of prestigious awards for her service and rose eventually to the position of Madame Provincial President.

Some of Charlotte's greatest achievements came later in her life. She got her driver's license at age 70. She also worked very hard to achieve a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo. Of this she was most proud.

Charlotte travelled to many interesting places during her life, but none was so fulfilling as her trip to Africa with oldest son Dean. This was "the trip of a lifetime", as she would say. She spoke of it often and its impact on her was everlasting. She cherished the many friendships she made with the people she met there.

During the last four years of her life, Charlotte lived at Mountain Lakes where she made many close connections, particularly with the staff. We are grateful for the care and support Charlotte received from all staff including the nurses, care aids and the wonderful people that provided enrichment activities during her time there.

Charlotte is survived by her sons Dean (Marleen), Steven (Aunaray) and Jeff, daughter Nanci (Brian), stepdaughters Jackie, Gerry and Tracy, brother Arthur (Linda), sister Gloria (Manfred), and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Louise and John, husband Jack, her son Cameron, brother Wayne, and sister Judy. Charlotte's incredible presence and her warm, endearing smile will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Thanks to Drs. Brandon Tuvel, Courtney Collins and Chi Zhang, for their special care of Charlotte in her last few years. We are grateful for their persistent efforts and support for her health and well-being.

A service to celebrate the life of our dear Charlotte will be held on May 23, 2024, at 1 pm at the Covenant Church, 702 Stanley St, Nelson, BC.
