March 31, 1923 - November 4, 2024
In loving memory ~
Tiny (Chrystal Mae) Wigg danced joyfully into heaven on November 4, 2024, at the age of 101. Born on March 31, 1923, in Dana, Saskatchewan, Tiny spent most of her life in the Mirror Lake, Kaslo, and Nelson communities of BC. Her life was one of dedication to her family, her friends, and the places she called home.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Valerie Johnson (Bruce); her grandchildren, Andrea Rhodes (Scott) and Scott Johnson (Lisa); her great-grandchildren, Victoria, Caitlin, and Holmes; and her cherished friend Lauretta Wilson. Tiny was predeceased by her beloved husband, Buster (David) Wigg; her parents, Nick and Gladys Driver; her sister, Bernice; and brothers, Roy, Earl, Bill, and Ed.
Tiny's youth was marked by her athletic achievements, particularly in swimming and diving, where she won numerous events with her skill and determination. In 1938, she was crowned Kaslo May Queen and in her later school years she was selected to travel to Vancouver and represent Kaslo during the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. These were memories that she cherished and proudly spoke of throughout her life.
Tiny worked for over 30 years as a teller at the Bank of Montreal in Nelson and served as the bookkeeper for Buster's taxi business. A skilled seamstress and knitter, Tiny proudly crafted clothes, drapes, and bedspreads, while her family and friends were warmed by her sweaters, scarves, and mittens. In retirement, she took up china painting and generously donated hundreds of hand-knitted dishcloths to local charities. She was an exceptional cook, always filling her home with warmth and wonderful meals for holidays and special gatherings.
Together, Tiny and Buster shared a profound love for the Kootenays, enjoying gardening, swimming, boating, camping, and road trips. They sought sunshine and adventure, spending many winters with family in Hawaii and Arizona.
Tiny's family extends their deep gratitude to the compassionate staff at Overlander Long Term Care Home in Kamloops, who helped her live each day with dignity and joy.
Tiny's adventurous spirit, resilience, and zest for life will be cherished forever. She was a remarkable mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and a guiding light of love and laughter. Her legacy is an enduring reminder of a life well-lived.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Nelson, BC, in the summer of 2025.
