Danny “Downtown” Rickaby, 58 of Nelson, British Columbia, passed away on January 14, 2017 due to a massive stroke.

There will be no funeral service held, but rather a celebration of life held at the Adventure Hotel on an undetermined Saturday in the Summer of 2017. Details will be posted on the Adventure Hotel Facebook page and around the hotel as plans are finalized.

Danny was born in Calgary, AB on November 20, 1958. He later moved to Lethbridge, AB where he began his career in the restaurant and hospitality business, opening his first pizza place at age 23 and meeting his future wife of 35 years, Joanne. His lively and curious personality, creative entrepreneurial spirit, brilliant business mind, and relentless determination led him to create dozens of successful business’ in this industry eventually leading him to the town and community that would forever claim his spirit - Nelson BC. The place where Danny and Joanne raised their 3 sons Addison, Chase, and Clay and grew the business’ on Vernon street that he will forever be remembered for. Danny enjoyed few things more than time spent on the headwaters of Kootenay Lake and good conversation, including a few “giggles”. Often recognized to the unknown as tough or hard-nosed, those who knew the real Danny knew him for his massive heart and willingness to better the community in any way he could. Above all, Danny loved his family – Not in the casual and required sense but in the deepest way imaginable. He put Joanne and the boys above all else. We were never left wanting materially or in a measure of guidance. He knew when to show us “tough love”, when to embrace us, and was always there for us when we needed his support the most. He managed to instill a true sense of values and respect in all of us. We are proud to be his wife and sons and to consider ourselves “proper” due to his guidance. A family man through and through.

Thank you for all that you have done and all that you preached, for your memories will live on through us forever. See you in Heaven pops, we can’t wait.
