June 25, 1951 - September 7, 2022
On Wednesday September 7, 2022, David John Wickstrom - loving husband and father - passed away at the age of 71.
David was born and raised in Nelson BC and spent most of his life in the surrounding area. He went to school at Selkirk College and later attended BCIT with a focus on forestry. Later in his career, he proudly earned his Registered Forest Technologist designation.
David worked with Slocan Forest Products for many years and later helped manage the 63,000 hectare Darkwoods Conservation Area in the West Kootenay for Darkwoods and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
His passions included skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and countless hours spent enjoying nature with family and friends in tow. He loved music and good food.
Dave will be missed by all who knew him but most deeply by Cathy, his beloved wife of 48 years, and cherished daughter Colleen (Ian). He also leaves behind his young granddaughter, Dylan, his twin brother Donald (Donna) and sister Mary Jean Searle (Peter), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their respective families.
David was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Christina Wickstrom, who passed in 2009.
All who knew him will surely miss his gentle presence, sense of humour, optimistic personality, and kind and loving spirit.
His family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all staff at Jubilee Manor for their incredibly compassionate, and almost familial, care during his time there.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Parkinson's research such as Pacific Parkinson's Research Institute or Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
