In loving memory ~

Denys V. Steele, born on July 21, 1939, in Grenada, West Indies, to Eric and Vivienne Steele, passed away on July 12, 2024. Denys was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, coach, and teammate.

He grew up alongside his three brothers (Johnny, Wilfred, and Raymond) and one sister (Elizabeth), sharing many cherished memories and strong family bonds.

Denys was a devoted husband to Celia Steele, with whom he shared a loving marriage. Together, they raised three wonderful children (Howard, Koren and Hugo) who were the pride and joy of his life. He had a special relationship with his three grandchildren, Kyle, Issiah and Aurora.

Denys was tremendously easy-going, accepting of others without judgment, and always ready to share a laugh. He was always reading and at the library, a food lover, a loyal husband, and a man who gave more of himself than anyone could have asked for. At 27, he immigrated to Nelson BC Canada, with his beloved wife and firstborn son, Howard.

From a tender age, he found his passion on the cricket field, eventually rising to the Grenadian national team—a source of immense pride and a testament to his dedication. Not content with just playing, Denys later became an umpire, a coach, and a mentor, shaping the lives of countless young cricketers. His influence extended to soccer as well, as he played, coached the minor soccer, refereed, and even helped establish Nelson's soccer fields for the community.

Denys will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on through the cherished memories shared by his loved ones.

Denys is survived by his wife-Celia Steele; Children-Howard Steele (Noraleigh), Koren Smith (John) and Hugo Steele (Lindsay); Grandchildren-Kyle Steele, Issiah Smith and Aurora Steele; Siblings-Raymond Steele and Elizabeth Steele, Wilfred Steele (preceded in death), and Johnny (preceded in death). He will be deeply missed
