Donald George Brown

April 5, 1925 - October 7, 2017

Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher and performer. He passed peacefully in his sleep after a slow decline.

He is survived by his wife of 63 yrs, Joyce, and Heather (John) and his grandchildren Andrew (Blessy), Courtney, Tamika and Tyler. Don was sadly predeceased by his son Peter leaving behind a lifelong partner Andrea. He was loved and will be missed by the large extended Brown family.

Don started his musical career in Nelson, BC and moved as a young man to Toronto to further his studies at the Conservatory of Music. He eventually settled in Vancouver where he performed with the CBC, TUTS and The Vancouver Opera Company as well as conducting many church choirs over the years. His lifelong love was music and he found great joy sharing that passion with his students both at UBC for 30 yrs in the Faculty of Music as well as his many private students.

Throughout their life, Don and Joyce have shared adventures in canoeing, hiking, camping and travelling in Europe and Indonesia.

There will be a celebration of Don's life on November 10, 2017 at 2 pm at Dunbar Ryerson United Church.

There will also be a small celebration in the spring in Nelson where the ashes will be lovingly interned beside his brothers and parents.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer's Society of BC or First United Church would be deeply appreciated by the family.
