(Toe) Doris Ella ( Fletcher) Fyfe, 88 year, 1928 - 2016 Kootenay pioneer and longtime Nelson BC resident Died on May 5, 2016.
Born 1928 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. The family travelled westward and settled in Ainsworth, BC. Early childhood was spent in Ainsworth playing with her sisters Corinne, Mavis and Eileen in a child sized playhouse tucked into the hillside flower garden and swimming in the Ainsworth hot springs.
Toe travelled to Kaslo for schooling and later to Nelson for high school at South Nelson High. She married her childhood sweetheart Stewart Fyfe of Kaslo and gave birth to 2 children Terry and Bradley. In 1951 the family moved to Nelson where Stewie and Toe ran the Kaslo Nelson Coach Line and contracted the RR1 Mail Route from Nelson to Procter and Balfour .
In the 1970's Toe received her nursing certification, travelled the world and worked in the Nelson Hospital from 1971-1993. She is Deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Never a dull moment...Toe was generous and enthusiastic all her life. She loved good food and entertaining friends. Toe was a nurse, mountaineer, 4x4 explorer, friend's and family caregiver and traveling companion. She trucked friends and family all over the mountainsides in search of her beloved huckleberries.
Toe is survived by her sister, Mavis, brother Jack, and two children Terry Chalmers and Bradley Fyfe, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Toe will be held in Ainsworth on July 2nd. A procession of friends and family beginning at 12 noon will accompany Her remains from the Fletcher house and lay them to rest with her family in the Ainsworth cemetery. Tea and conversation will follow at the Fletcher family house.
