In Loving Memory ~

Dorothy (Dot) Louise Doyle (Durrand) passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2024, at Jubilee Manor in Nelson BC with her youngest daughter holding her hand.

Dot was born in Revelstoke to William and Olive Durrand, where she grew up - inspiring her love for mountains, whether climbing, painting or photographing them. This was where mom also developed her love of skiing: downhill, cross country and even following her brothers down the ski jump known as "Suicide Hill".

After graduating mom moved to Nelson in hopes of working as a reporter for the Nelson Daily News, but instead met her love, our dad, Joe Doyle. They married in Nelson on Oct. 23, 1947, and then the family gradually grew by 5 more.

Mom was an adventurous, loving and generous woman. Her passion, besides family and gardening was always the mountains. She summitted Mt. Begbie when she was 65 - her camera going everywhere with her. Mom ran, cycled and swam in various events including Nelson's Triathlon and participated many times in the Senior Games, returning with medals.

Once everyone was in school mom started working at Ramsey's Camera store and when it moved across the street, she went too! Mom eventually started her own business "Photo's Unlimited" shooting thousands of photos and developing them in her dark room. She also loved painting and donated many to the Kootenay Lake hospital to be used for fund raising.

We will miss but always be grateful to Mom for having instilled in us a love of the outdoors, a passion for Life and Adventure, while knowing the difference between right and wrong.

Dot was predeceased by her parents: husband Joseph of 54 years in 2002, granddaughter Caitlin, brothers, Tyke, Fred and Jack and their spouses.

Dot is survived by her children Sandra (Dave), Bruce (Monica), Sharon, Grant (Cheryl), Kathy (Iain) as well as 10 grandchildren: Jennifer, Cory, Krissy, Danielle, Clayton, Scott, Lisa, Curt, Carly and Hailey and 7 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law Marie.

Our family would like to give a huge Thank you to all the caring staff at Jubilee Manor. In Lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity or just look outside at a mountain and remember Dot.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer.
