April 10, 1934 - November 30, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness that the family of Edgar Kanigan announces his passing in Nelson, BC on November 30, 2024, at the age of 90 years old.
Edgar was born on April 10, 1934, to parents Annie (Doubinin) and George William Kanigan. The family moved from Blewett to Taghum, where Edgar would later build a home where his children Natalie and Ed Jr. were raised. While his marriage to Daria Kanigan (nee Tarasoff) did not last, they remained friends throughout the years.
In his earlier years, Edgar worked as an equipment operator, logger and carpenter. He was one of the founding members of the Taghum Improvement District. He enjoyed fishing, huckleberry and mushroom picking, farming and being in the bush. He enjoyed family time and could sometimes be heard singing and strumming on his guitar, sometimes with his brother George joining in with his accordion. Later in life, Edgar enjoyed going for drives with his son.
Edgar was a home body, preferring to visit with his friends and family in the comfort of his home. He took pride in his home, family, work and community. He had a great sense of humor and could tell a story like no one else. He valued spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as other friends and family, for whom he always had a smile.
Edgar was predeceased by his father and mother, his brother George Kanigan and sister Anne Kabatoff, as well as his son Raymond. Daria, the mother of his children, passed away in 2023.
He is survived by his daughter Natalie (Allan Lapierre), son Ed Jr., grandchildren Heather Giesler and Darryl deKok (Lisa), great-grandchildren Hailey and Paige Giesler and Lily deKok, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Jubilee Manor for caring for Edgar during his final years.
There will be a small private service in the Spring or Summer, where Edgar's remains will be interred at the Ooteshenia Cemetery.
