In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Edith Ann DeFoe (Sue) on March 12th, 2023, in Kamloops, B.C. She passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years with her children by her side.
Sue was predeceased by her parents Edith and Theodore (Ted) Swendson and brother Ted. Left to honor Sue and remember her love are her brother Bernie (Louise) Swendson, children, Brenda (Charlie) Fukala, Konrad (Teresa) DeFoe, Ross (Tannis) DeFoe, Sandy (Tony Wooster) Hollstedt, Lisa (Bob McArthur) DeFoe, grandchildren, Jason (Tori), Ryan (Ally), Anthony, Victoria (Donna), Carly, Patrick, John (Caitlin), Kirsten (Brock), 8 great-grandchildren, a nephew, nieces and cousins.
Sue was born and raised in Nelson, B.C. where she married and began her family. Several years were also spent in Nakusp, B.C. before returning to Nelson once again. After several years at the West Coast, Sue re-located to Kamloops, B.C. While she had proudly made Kamloops her home over the past few decades, and created cherished memories and many friendships there, Nelson remained close in her heart. She will be missed by many.
Sue was employed at Kelly Douglas & GW Moore Accountants in Nelson, B.C. and Garaventa Lift in Surrey, B.C. Over the years, Sue enjoyed giving back to her community through volunteer and political activities.
Those who knew her well will fondly remember her quick wit and curiosity, passion for music, love of art, film, theatre, literature, and her compassion for those less fortunate.
Sue so enjoyed the outdoors, as evidenced in the care and abundance of her garden, of which she proudly shared the bounty. Her favourite outings & hikes were enjoyed with a dog walking club and her faithful 4-legged companion, Tia. Boating on Kootenay Lake, camping, skiing & skating were other outdoor activities she enjoyed throughout her life. Her love of nature and all things natural were instilled in her children and grandchildren.
Sue loved to travel and while she had been to Europe and Norway in earlier years, upon retirement she headed off to explore Portugal, Spain, Australia and also enjoyed an Alaskan cruise, adding to her bucket list of travel destinations.
We would like to acknowledge all the wonderful personal support network of individuals who helped her in so many ways, and most recently to the Dr's and medical support personnel at the Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops BC. We are so grateful for the compassion and care provided to Mom and the family.
Plans for a Celebration of Life will be shared at a later date to take place this summer in Nelson B.C.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
