In Loving Memory ~
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ted Chapman. A lifelong Nelson resident, born to the late John and Ruth Chapman.
He is survived by his loving wife Maureen Bullock, and sister Jacqueline Bryden. Fondly remembered by Maureen's children Donna (Dave), Tamara (Marty), Nicole (Perry), Norman Jr. and children. Loving Uncle to Leticia (Scott) Thompson, and Sharon (Rick) Santing. Great-nephews Jeff (Sarah)Thompson, Cody (Jinyi) and Lukas (Sophie) Santing, and great-niece Rachel (Ryan)Thompson found him to be a great character and enjoyed his sense of humour.
Ted was also predeceased by sister, Linda Chapman, brother-in-law James Bryden, great-nephew Tyler Santing.
Ted will also be missed by Keyla, his canine companion who enjoyed sitting on his lap and giving kisses.
As a youth growing up in Fairview, Ted enjoyed playing on baseball teams in the baseball diamond below his house. Ted had a paper route, which enabled him to save enough money to purchase a 'vintage' car. He rebuilt it in the family garage on Davies Street. At 16 years of age, a road trip to Spokane, W.A. with his sister Jacquie created a memorable adventure.
Ted received a gift of a hammer and nails at a young age and a carpenter was born. Ted thought very highly of the Sawada Family; he learned his carpentry trade from the Father and Son Company. Ted eventually branched out on his own and left a legacy of homes for the City of Nelson, particularly Seventh Street and the North Shore. He was a builder at heart, much loved by his family for using his knowledge to diagnose problems, innovate and applying his skills to create solutions.
Ted enjoyed boating and spent a lot of time on Kootenay Lake, even if he never learned to swim. He also enjoyed reading local Kootenay history. Ted had a passion for making the Nelson community better through his many building projects, and volunteering with the Nelson Electric Tramway Society. He also enjoyed road trips and visiting relatives and friends around B.C. and beyond.
As Ted navigated many health challenges in the past few years, special thanks go to the caring medical professionals, Andrew of Nelson Clinic Pharmacy and the nurses of Nelson & District Home Support.
He will be deeply missed by and lovingly remembered by his many cousins, family and friends that were lucky to know him, and mostly by his wife Maureen, who formed such a powerful bond with Ted in the later years of his life.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada in his name.
