October 10, 1929 - July 20, 2018
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Agnew. Mom passed peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the age of 88.
Born October 10, 1929 in Nelson, B. C., to Harry and Annie Wassick. Betty grew up with 3 brothers and one sister, attended Nelson High School and then to Victoria for "Normal" school to become a teacher. She taught school around the East Kootenays until she met the love of her life and dance partner, Tom, in Marysville, and was married on November 3, 1951 in the Catholic Church in Nelson. Betty enjoyed and participated in many school, club and recreational sports...including basketball, ice hockey, swimming, curling, golfing and dancing.
She was a lifetime member of the Eagles and the President of the BCLCA (British Columbia Ladies Curling Assoc.) in 1985. Her quick wit, infectious smile and generous hugs were enjoyed by all who were blessed to know her. Betty ran a pre-school when her six children were young and later taught music at A Collinson. She also spent many years with Ted Allen Jewelers. Betty loved her time chaperoning numerous school trips and curling bonspiels with her children.
Tom and Betty also had many dear longtime friends who got together frequently to play cards and games. Tom and Betty enjoyed going on vacations to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Australia, Mexico and California. But mostly, they treasured their time at the cabin on the lake at Balfour surrounded by their family and friends.
Her grandchildren were very dear and close to her. Mom is predeceased by her brothers, Harry (Red), Richard and Robert (Bob), and is survived by her sister Dorothy, her six children, Judy (Shawn), Cathy (Charlie), Debbie (Terry), Janet (Joe), Doug ( Melanie) and Jason. Along with 13 grandchildren and 2.7 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Betty's Life will be held at the Prestige Lake Resort, 701 Lakeside Drive, Nelson on Wednesday August 8, 2018, from 2:00-4:00 pm.
