It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our beloved aunt, sister, godmother and friend.
Elsie was born 95 years ago in Markinch, Saskatchewan one of twelve children. Elsie was married to Dmytro (Matt) Popadynetz on December 28, 1947 after a persistent courtship. After marrying in New Westminster, the newly married couple moved to Princeton and then to Nelson. In the mid-60's, they headed up to the Lesser Slave Lake area in Northern Alberta for work, but soon returned to Nelson. Elsie was an active member of the Ascension Lutheran Church who she considered family. She was also an avid cribbage player and enjoyed activities with the Seniors' Centre.
Elsie is survived by her sister Olga, a brother Siegfried and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. Thank you to the nurses and staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital for their care and kindness and to the congregation of the Ascension Lutheran Church for their support and guidance.
A Service for Elsie will be held November 1, 2019 at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 1805 Silver King Road at 1 pm. Interment to follow at the Nelson Cemetery. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence by visiting the family's online register at www.thompsonfs.ca.
