It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Esther McParlon after a lengthy battle with ovarian and colon cancer. She was a beautiful, gentle person who always encountered life’s difficulties with great strength and wisdom. Esther was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Harold and her son, Patrick. She is survived by her daughter, Meredith, her sisters Beverly and Lee and many loving nieces and nephews. Esther was born in Provost, Alberta and lived in Westlock, Alberta for a number of years before moving to Grand Forks, B. C. with her family in 1941. After graduating high school, she attended U.B.C. for one year and then a secretarial college. She married Harold McParlon in 1949 and lived in Trail, B. C. for a number of years before returning to Grand Forks. They spent many summers at the family cabin at Christina Lake. Those years were among her fondest memories. In 1973 Esther was appointed as the first female Government Agent in the province. Her first posting was in Fort St. James, followed by Oliver and then Nelson, where she retired. Esther was very active in the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Business and Professional Women’s’ Club. Her hobbies included travel, cooking, curling, golf, bridge and painting. In her later years, she moved to the lower mainland to be closer to her daughter and died at her home in Surrey. Esther was a loyal and loving daughter, wife, mother and sister. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good time. Her presence will be dearly missed by all of her family. A service will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home in Nelson on Thursday, March 30th at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Forks on Friday, March 31st at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Agency or the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated. On Line Condolences may be expressed at www.thompsonfs.ca.
