June 13, 1930 - September 5, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Florence Antoinette Cameron (DeGirolamo) announces her peaceful passing on September 5th, 2023, at KLH, Nelson, B.C.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Jim and partner Eric Erickson. She will be dearly missed by her children Rick (Linda), Jeanne and Michael (Carrie), grandchildren Scott, Heather, Katie, Justin, Alex, Candace and Jess and great-grandchildren Veronika, Adam, Nicola, Charlotte, Edouard, Alexandra, Abigail, Evelyn, and Charlize.
Florence (Flora) was born on June 13th, 1930, in Nelson, B.C. Growing up at Mountain Station she was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Emilia DeGirolamo, siblings Charlie, Alfred, Johnny, Eda, Mary, George, and Georgina. Auntie Flora loved keeping in touch with her many nieces and nephews.
She took her hairdressing course in Victoria and returned to Nelson to start her career. She met the love of her life, Jim Cameron, and they were married on November 11th, 1950. They moved to Jim's hometown of Wartime, Saskatchewan where they enjoyed farming, raising their children and making many life-long friends. Unfortunately, Jim passed away in 1967 and the family moved to Nelson. She renewed her hairdressing license, returned to work, and eventually owned her own hairdressing salon known as the Magic Mirror. She eventually sold the business but continued to do hair well into her 80s.
In 1994 she met Eric Erickson, and they enjoyed the next 28 years together travelling, camping, and cruising.
She was a member of the Legion and Curling Club, volunteered with Jubilee Manor, and Meals-on-Wheels, donated knitted items to the Hospital Auxiliary and competed at the BC Senior Games.
Family was important to her and with her cousins Lorraine May and Rena Bragagnolo, they spearheaded several family reunions. She also reconnected with her Mother's family in Brazil where she travelled to meet all of that family.
Mom had a great sense of humour, and was very dynamic and social, always having an open door, a smile, and a meal for everyone. She was a loving Mom, Grandma, Nona, Auntie, and a dear friend to all who knew her and will be dearly missed and always loved.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kirsten and the staff on the 3rd floor of KLH whose care and concern for Mom in her final days was very appreciated.
A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on October 6th, 2023, at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, 813 Ward Street, Nelson, B.C. Please join us to celebrate Mom's life.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.
