May 24, 1937 - May 25, 2024
In loving memory ~
"It's been a good life."
Froukje was born in Munnikeberen, Nederlands on May 24th, 1937, to Trijntje (nee Bakker) and Christoffel Wierda, in her Oma's bed. Froukje was the eldest of three children, including Harm and Willem Jan. Froukje grew up in the Netherlands, excelled at school, and worked as a clerk and a phone operator. She married Jeen vanEns on February 2, 1959, young and ready for adventure, they immigrated to Canada that summer, joining her best friend who was already in Nova Scotia.
Their first child was born in 1960, and the next summer they loaded up their Volkswagen truck and continued their adventure across Canada and landed in New Westminster, BC. Several moves and three more children, Froukje, now Viola, became a single parent. With remarkable courage and resiliency, she navigated the challenges of life, work, education, and raising her family. Viola met and married George Kiss in 1981 and they became a family of ten. In 2002 she and George separated, and Viola moved to Nelson, BC. She immersed herself in Nelson life, loving the vitality of the community.
Viola was witty, intelligent, curious, and had a wonderful sense of humour, she loved to laugh and was always ready with a mischievous remark. She loved the simple pleasures, long conversations, boisterous card games, trying new foods, reading, loved her family and friends. She was warm and accepting of everyone. The gentleness she showed the world as she lived her last few years was an honour to be a part of - a constant role model of grace and beauty.
Mom departed this life on May 25th, 2024, at home surrounded by her children. She is survived by a large extended family, Yvonne (Kevin), Arwin, Dianey (Corey), Jeanine, (Harry), Lisa, James, (Rob and Rick, deceased), Brandy (Curtis), Willow (Aaron), Amanda, Taliesin (Hannah), Christopher (Dani), Ava, Matthew, Ashlee, Jordyn, Peyton, Riley, Jakob, Oliver, Savannah, Ayden, Zoey, Kohen, and Rosalind.
We miss her!
