Bill was born to Wilf and Milretta Waite in a farmhouse in Midale, Saskatchewan. He was the 5th child in a family of 9 boys & 2 girls. He came “west” to Castlegar to join 2 of his brothers in 1949. There he met Gaie, his future wife of 60 years. Bill worked at the Trail Cominco Smelter, Mitchel’s Coal, Columbia Motors, and OK Tire before moving to Nelson in 1957 to open Fairview Esso with a partner. Later he joined Algars Tire which became Glendale Tire. He started Waite’s Wheel Alignment on their property at 6 Mile in 1978. Gaie and Bill moved to Kelowna in 1983, Gaie being transferred with BC Tel. After retirement, they moved to Penticton in 1993. They spent several winters as “snowbirds” in their 5th wheel where they made and kept many good friends and were members at the Summerland Golf and Country Club for many years. Bill was sadly predeceased by daughter, Michele, 2 sisters, and 5 brothers. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Gaie; son, Kevin; friend, Sydney; brothers, Marlin (Marcelle), Neil (Darlene), Lyman (Joanne) as well as several nieces and nephews. A family graveside memorial will be held in Nelson at a later date. Donations may go to Penticton Regional Hospital c/o SOS Medical Foundation, 550 Carmi Ave., Penticton, V2A 3G6.
