August 19, 1940 - September 30, 2021
On Thursday, September 30, 2021, Gary Leroy Jacobson, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Gary was born on August 19, 1940, in Nelson, BC to Per and Alida Jacobson.
He married Audrey Simser, and welcomed children Heidi (Ron) and Jeffrey (Jennifer).
On July 30, 1977, he married Judy Jacobson at the Nelson United Church and they raised three children Nicole (Eddie), Mark (Sarah) and Tad. He has three grandchildren, Calle, Cole, and Erik.
Gary was raised in Bonnington with his elder brothers Ron and Gene, and younger sister Marilyn. After graduating from LV Rogers in 1959, he lived in Vancouver and Williams Lake before moving back to the Nelson area in 1976.
Following high school, he finished barber school and ran two successful barbering businesses in Williams Lake and Nelson, known as Jake's Place. Following his career in barbering, he completed his red seal certification in carpentry. He was a skilled craftsman and general handyman who enjoyed making furniture and finishing carpentry.
Gary was a social and warm man who spent many years contributing to the community though his affiliation as a Lions Club member and president. He was also an avid scout, who volunteered as a scout leader for several years. He loved camping, cooking, spending time with his pets, and telling a good story.
Gary was predeceased by his father, mother and brother Ron of Nelson, BC. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Judy, his brother Gene, and his sister Marilyn.
His life was celebrated on October 4, 2021, at 11 am, at Thompson Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lee MacKay and the 3rd floor nursing staff at Kootenay Lake District Hospital for their kind and exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Kootenay Lake District Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
