Dad was born in Nelson and loved the freedom of life, to roam the hills, ride the rails, fish the lakes and streams and hunt the mountains. He was a founding member of the Nelson Rod & Gun club and was instrumental in the formation of the BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF). In 1965, making his own ammunition Dad achieved the "Expert Dominion Marksman" status with 5939 / 6000.
George lived well a full life of great memories. He met his future wife, Wilma, while attending SAIT in Calgary. A love, that lasted their lifespan. The early 50's found him in the far north working on the "Defence and Early Warning" (Dew Line). He was an adventurer, an explorer. He spoke his truth with confidence. As a father he was firm, always fair and loving.
He and Wilma spent the winters of over 30 years in the Bahamas, fishing, diving, flying to uninhabited islands. They worked a small delivery ship for a season traveling from the Bahamas to Turks & Caicos.
He was a master of many trades, electrician, plumber, welder, HVAC, as well as a Business man, College instructor, Property owner, Rancher. He enjoyed his small ranch in the East Kootenay.
George was a long-standing member of the Nelson Gyro club. He and Wilma enjoyed all aspects of the social gatherings and travels to conventions where they met many life-long friends.
Dad loved a good party. He was as sociable as they come and always ready for a good time.
He spent his last years telling stories of days gone by. Taking the train from Nelson to Castlegar, traveling up the lake to Deer Park. Hunting in the north, hunting in the Bull River of the East Kootenay.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the BC Ambulance service, the attendants and the medical staff of the Castlegar and Trail hospitals.
