September 26, 1935 - November 8, 2019
It is with great sadness that Gerry's family announces that she passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital with her family at her side, after a courageous 10 month battle with cancer. Gerry is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Ted, her son Ed and wife Laurie, her daughter Leah and husband Lou, her grandchildren Jason (wife Sophia), Michelle, Rachel, and Connor. She will also be missed by her beloved nephew Blair (wife Anita) and their children Darian and Cassandra, her brother Gordon Davidson, and many other extended family who loved her dearly.
As the daughter of British Columbia Provincial Policeman Bill Davidson and his wife Dorothy, Gerry grew up in many communities across the province, and settled in Nelson where she met her future husband Ted and spent the rest of her life as a proud member of the community. (For example, Gerry generously made the first donation to Touchstones Museum's successful Nelson Family Donor campaign, which kick-started the community level fundraising for the new facility.) Gerry worked in the financial services business for over 60 years, and was a passionate, hard-working, and award winning female pioneer of that industry, and who loved working with her many clients. But Gerry put family first, and was lovingly known by her own grandchildren, and by many children of family friends, summer neighbours at Queens Bay, and among her extended family, as "Grandma Gerry". She taught many children over the years how to play her favourite game of crib. In her spare time she loved reading mysteries and hosting family dinners.
The family wishes to thank her Doctors McKechnie, Malpass and Tuval, as well as all the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff during her two stays in the hospital, both last April and during the week of her passing. The loving and compassionate care extended to Gerry and her family made the difficult journey more bearable. We also wish to thank the staff from IHA Home Health for their caring help at home. And finally, the family will be forever grateful to all those friends and former clients who stood by her through all the years.
A Celebration of Life for her friends and family will take place during the August long-weekend, summer 2020, at Queens Bay. And in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation to honour the compassionate caregivers in our community, or to any other charity of your choice. Rest in Peace, Gerry.
