In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Glen was born January 1st, 1935, in Kincaid, Saskatchewan, the second child of 6 born to Victor and Jean Jones. At an early age, his family moved to the Kootenays and within a few years settled in Castlegar, B.C. He told many stories of his fond memories growing up there free to run and play with friends and siblings surrounded by the natural beauty of the area. Early on, some of his first jobs were carrying bags for passengers at the railway station and delivering milk for Tippings Farm. In his late teens, his direction changed in two ways sparking passion in his life. He started working on the water and he met the love of his life, Marian Embree. They married on October 10th, 1953, moved to Nelson and started a family.
Glen loved his work both on the water and with his machines. Whether working with his brothers, sons or by himself he enjoyed every day to the fullest. He was a man of many talents and took pride in every job he did. With a young family to support, he received his welding ticket and started working for Kootenay Forest Products, fabricating a tugboat to tow logs. His next accomplishment was getting his Heavy-Duty Mechanics ticket and working for Finning Tractor, and from there started his own businesses, Glen Jones Contracting and Kootenay Lake Pile Driving. He brought his skill and experience to jobs all over the Kootenays, from the Seven Mile Reservoir, Lakeside Park Walkway, Whitewater Ski Hill, Eagleview and Balfour Golf Courses, just to mention a few.
When not working he was passionate about his Six Mile farm which included horses, chickens, Black Angus cattle, and many beloved dogs by his side. He was guided by his strong Christian faith and loved his family, especially watching the grandchildren enjoy the farm.
There are so many words to describe Glen ... but a humble, kind, hardworking father and husband are just a few. He was genuinely interested in the well-being of others, loved driving to Creston for hay and chatting with farmers, always looked forward to planting his garden in Spring, and was happy to have someone stop by for a coffee around the kitchen table.
We so wish we had more time to spend with him, but we know he will be waiting for us. We are so very proud of the person he was and the accomplishments and legacy he has left his family to follow. Glen is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marian, and his 8 children, Jan, Sheryll, Curtis, Clay, Mike (Bernice), Glenda (Mark), Cam (Christine) and Victor. His siblings Gary (Isabel), Beverly, Mickey (Sharon), Sharon, Vicki (Charlie) and 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. And many nephews and nieces.
Glen was predeceased by his parents Victor and Jean Jones and grandson Brent Davies.
Dad, we love you and you'll be missed by many, many people. A church service will be held on Saturday, December 31st, at 1 p.m., at the Balfour Covenant Church, 7741 Upper Balfour Road, Balfour, B.C.
