March 15, 1925 - March 2, 2025

In loving memory ~

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Grace Josephine McLaughlin (née Filippelli) on Sunday March 2nd in Trail's Poplar Ridge Pavilion with family by her side. Our dear Mother/Nonna /sister/Aunt was 99 years old.

Grace was predeceased by her husband Isadore, Mother Laurantonia, Father Luigi, and sisters Rose Miller and Mary Moro. She is survived by her sister Theresa Pisapio, daughters Nancy (Chris), Laura (Brian), Theresa (Ian), and son Pat (Susan), 10 grandchildren - Vanessa (Darren), Emily, Rebecca (Christian), Joshua (Emily), Andrea (David), Jesse, Kali (Dallin), Jonah (Cailin), Maria (Dan), Mya (Clay), 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grace was born on March 15, 1925 in Bocchigliero, Calabria, Italy. She emigrated to Canada with her mother and sisters when she was 9 years old. They joined her father Luigi and settled in Trail where she met Isadore, her future husband. Happily married for 62 years they spent the first decades of their life together raising their family in Trail.

Grace and Isadore opened a new chapter in their lives in the 1970s when they purchased Leno-Whimster Printing (McLaughlin's Printing) in Nelson. While Isadore ran the printing presses Grace oversaw the stationery side of the business. Grace thrived as the welcoming face of the shop, and quickly became well known in the business community. Busy workdays were followed by their time relaxing at their Kootenay Lake cabin.

Grace had a zest for life that animated everything she did. She loved golf, spending time at the lake, cooking delicious Italian feasts for family gatherings, and playing bridge with friends. She was also an active member of the Catholic Women's League in both Trail and Nelson.

Her sense of humour was infectious - her fun-loving spirit was a wonderful complement to her wise ways. Her legacy is one of abundant love - for her family, friendships, for good food shared around a table with both. Though we are heartbroken by her passing, we find comfort in the countless good memories of our lives together.

May those memories of Grace continue to bring warmth and light to those who knew her.

A mass will be held at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate in Nelson on August 2nd at 11:00 followed by a reception in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation.
