In Loving Memory ~
Greta passed away at the age of 99 years 8 months. Despite the advantage of age losing a mother always hurts, however, mom would not want us to be sad but rather pleased that she had a fulfilling and interesting life and was able to share her stories with family right up to her last day with us.
Our mom instilled the importance of growing our own food, reusing or re-purposing items, to be kind to nature and that family is to be protected.
She was proud to be able to do her part to support the family and her hands never sat idle; with her incredible vegetable and flower garden, canning, baking especially bread, sewing, mending, knitting and crocheting as well as doing her part with farm chores and various farm work.
Born in Garyp, Freisland, Netherland, she immigrated to Canada in 1948 settling in Southern Alberta. Moving to Canada was an adventure for her and she embraced every moment as a proud Canadian. (Ironically passing away on Canada Day).
Greta was predeceased by her parents Binne and Klaska Kloosterman, ten siblings, the father of her children and one great grandchild.
Left to cherish memories are children Clara Grouwstra, Gerry (Linda), Ben (Helen), Frank (Margaret), Don, Evy Grouwstra, Jean (Brian) Knuckey, 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Special thanks to staff and members of Castleview Care Centre for their dedicated and compassionate care and support the past two years.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Greta's memory can be made to the local SPCA, 124 Heritage Way, Castlegar, BC. V1N 4M5.
